Liquid lipsticks are one of the most popular makeup items out on the market at the moment, and with many brands bringing their own version of a liquid lipstick out, there are plenty to choose from. I recently picked some cheaper liquid lipsticks up from ebay, which were a bargain price of only 99p each! The brand Menow, has a collection of 36 different shades to choose from, and having heard good things about them, I had to give them a try for myself!
There are plenty of different colours to choose from, although I did find that a lot of the shades available were very pink toned. I think it would of been nice for the shades to be a bit more varied - maybe a few more dark purple vampy colours, or even a few more reds. One thing I did notice when looking at swatches online, is that not all the liquid lipsticks are completely matte - some have some shimmer in them. But there are plenty of swatch videos on YouTube so it made it very easy to pick out the colours I wanted.
Shade 18 - Cool toned nude (matte)
Shade 10 - Warm toned nude brown (shimmery matte)
Shade 24 - Peachy Apricot (Shimmery Matte)
Shade 12 - Bright Barbie Pink (Matte)
Shade 02 - Plummy Fuchsia (Matte)
Shade 09 - Bright Orange Red (Matte)
So what do I think if these?
One thing I will say about these liquid lipsticks, is that all of them are different. Whether it be the finish, that some are more opaque than others, the smell - they are different.
As I said, these are 99p each, although the price does depend who you buy them from. Some sellers may sell them cheaper, or more expensive, but I got mine from a UK seller on eBay who I will leave a link to at the bottom of this post.
The tube that the product comes in, is just quite simple. The packaging is a tiny bit cheap, and the writing does start to rub off the tube as soon as you start using the product - which is a little bit annoying, but is expected from a product so cheap. One thing I do like about the packaging is the sleekness of it. The tube is nice and slim, and you can see the colour of the product inside which is helpful if you are in a rush and need to grab one particular colour. Also I do really like the applicator, which is just a standard doefoot applicator, but it is really easy to apply the product to the lips without putting to much product on in one go.
The way the product applies to lips, again depends on which ones you buy. Some of the liquid lipsticks are more opaque than others, and will only need one coat. Whereas some others may need a couple of coats to be completely opaque. The more shimmery matte shades are definitely more streaky, so you have to be pretty precise when applying them.
The actual texture of the liquid lipstick is quite lightweight and thin. When on the lips, the product doesn't feel heavy or thick, its very light and I almost forget I'm wearing it!
The smell of the product is again something that depends on which ones you have. For the most of them, they have a sweet fruity scent, but a couple do have a slight plastic smell to them. The scent's are not awful and really not an issue, especially since there is no smell to them once they dry.
As with most liquid lipsticks, they do have a good staying power, and are best removed with an oil based makeup remover. For a 99p lip product, they do last well on the lips. However you do start to get that line on the inside part of the lip where the lip colour is starting to fade away, after about an hour of wearing them. The product will need to keep being topped up throughout the day, it's definitely not one you can count on to look fresh all throughout the day.
Other than that, I do feel like these liquid lipsticks are pretty awesome for only 99p! They are great if you just want try a few new colours and don't want anything expensive, or if like me you are not very good at applying liquid lipsticks, these are awesome to practise with!
